A worked example

Say you run an aparthotel with 20 apartments, and all of them are occupied every night of a 30-night month. That's 600 unit-nights. At €5 per unit per night, the tax for the month comes to €3,000.

Is the Brussels tourist tax charged per person or per room?

Per accommodation unit, meaning a bedroom or a space arranged for sleeping, per night, whatever the number of guests in it.

Did the Brussels tourist tax go up in 2026?

Yes. From 1 January 2026 it rose from €4 to €5 per unit per night, and from €3 to €4 for homestays and campsites.
